Photoshop Lab

Opened Photoshop CS6

"What can we do to make this image better?"

Play around and select different parts of the image (Magic Wond) and mess with Photoshop! (Colors, Levels, etc)

Architecture - did you know that the Mass Comm Building is leaning forward? So in Photoshop, we can correct (skew) it and fix the perspective so the building is standing straight.

**Make sure one of our three shots is at Dusk**

Picture Review

After a long delay, we copied all our pictures to his computer and began to view them in-class.

Some comments from pictures:

- I like looking at these kinds of lines and shapes

- lines, lines, lines

Personal Aside: [but I'm not convinced...it's architecture! Not my work!]

- (Dragging Mids in Photoshop) "I'm making it what it isn't, and I don't want to do that"

- Sometimes color is so distracting (the Game Room image)

- Look for things like timing your image.  There is a biker that could have made the photo
100% better if he was at the sweet spot on the image.

- "darken densities and bring the blacks out"

- "It almost makes you ask more questions"

- (stairwell) almost looks like an abstract photo

- "This had its own flavor to it"

- "You can almost feel the mud in that picture!"

- "I could be be right in that hammock with him--well not with him"

- Rim Light on Chris playing Uke. "very very nice" "very professional image right there"

Then we looked at some of his images.

Open Photoshop

We were all to have our new three images and lightly edit them in PhotoShop (specifically).

We were to adjust the "Levels"
Shrink the photo "Adjust Size" to the maximum width/hight of 10 inches at 72 dpi
Save all as a TIFF when editing and then as JPEG as the final product.

Have your pictures edited for next class.

Reviewed Basic Features of an Image

He handed out a hand-out.. yeah.
Quick tips that we should already know.

On most digital cameras:

TV mode:
adjust Shutter Speed (1/4, 3")

AV mode:
aperture priority
"wide open" fastest
smaller number, the
letting more/less light in
F16 less light,  F2 more light in

Smaller Aperture, higher depth of field

Looking to capture Stop action?
TV mode preferred so you can control for a quick shutter speed.

We shoot a lot from eye-level.. shake it up

Then we looked at some recent work by other students, where he pointed out some of the rules

Slideshow with images as our final presentation.
Maybe something for NCTC? (one stone, baby)

Now that we've reviewed some of these concepts
** Reshoot 3 Pix**
What appeals to you? Does it really illustrate student life?
Use unique angles..lines, likes lines.
Turn-in on jump drive.
